Crossing the channel: By sea

You can choose to cross the Channel by the shortest route from Dover with SeaFrance, P & O Ferries, Hoverspeed or by the longer routes from Portsmouth by P & O Ferries. The ferries operate 24 hours a day, take 75-90 minutes to cross on the shortest route and provide on board a full range of services such as bars, restaurants, shops and currency exchange. See details of supplements and discounts.

Crossing the channel: By the tunnel

Eurotunnel shuttle service takes 35 minutes platform to platform with 2-3 shuttle trains per hour during the 24 hour operation. Before driving on to the Shuttle you will proceed through both English and French Frontier controls. During the journey you will be able to get out of your vehicle but there are no services on the train except toilet facilities. There are no frontier controls on disembarkation, so after arrival at Calais you drive straight on to the A16! See details of supplements and discounts.

Driving to the Serre Chevalier: Road conditions

Driving in France in winter is not difficult where autoroutes are much quieter than in the UK. Continental countries generally keep their roads clear of snow. However snow chains should be carried in the mountains and in snowy conditions you will be required to fit them unless you have spiked or studded tyres. Chains can be bought at most autoroute service stations or supermarkets.

Driving to Serre Chevalier: Driving time

Serre Chevalier can now be reached in approximately 10-12 hours driving via the extensive French autoroutes from Calais to Grenoble via Lyon. There is then approximately 100km of the N91 to Serre Chevalier via the Col du Lautaret.

We will advise on a route to suit your needs and provide route maps.
